Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – After dropping a one-run decision during game one (3-2) the North Carolina Central University softball team earn its season-first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference shutout as the Lady Eagles defeated the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs in five innings (8-0) during game two of the three-game series Saturday, April 12 in Orangeburg, S.C.
Rookie
Dominque Wilson (Mooresville, N.C.) and junior
Emerie Germ (Canton, Ga.) combined for all three of the Lady Eagles hits during game one as Wilson scored both of NCCU's runs.
Sophomore
London Booker (Richmond, Va.) pitched the complete six innings for the Lady Eagles during the 3-2 loss. Booker faced 26 batters, gave up seven hits and three earned runs while retiring eight Lady Bulldogs at the plate and allowing no walks.
During game two NCCU converted on two early SCSU errors in the first inning. Emerie Germ and Wilson reached first on errors while sophomore De'Onna Smith's (McLeansville, N.C.) triple scored the Lady Eagles first two runs of the contest.
Rookie
Brianna Hampton (Lakewood, Calif.) earned a spot on first base after being hit by a pitch and forced the Lady Bulldogs catcher to throw at her attempted steal to second base while Smith scored from third.
NCCU added two more runs to its lead during the third inning, taking a 5-0 advantage over SCSU into the fourth inning.
During the top of the fifth back-to-back triples from Emerie Germ and Wilson started off the inning. Wilson scored Germ while junior
Martha Batie's (Harrisburg, Pa.) single with two outs scored Wilson and fellow junior
Tiphani Jackson's (Bowie, Md.) single and extra base attempt scored Batie giving NCCU the 8-0 lead.
SCSU was unable to put a run on the board during the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Eagles collected their first MEAC shutout of the season defeating the Lady Bulldogs 8-0 in the fifth inning.
Booker remained in the circle for NCCU during game two throwing an additional five innings. She allowed four SCSU hits, gave up two walks and struck out two batters.
