NCCU MEN’S TENNIS EARNS COMEBACK VICTORY ON SENIOR DAY

Eagles Honor Charles-Donatien Against Shaw U

DURHAM, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team honored lone senior Stephan Charles-Donatien prior to the Eagles "Senior Day" 4-3 victory over the Shaw U Bears Friday, April 11 on the NCCU Tennis Courts in Durham.

Shaw earned the doubles point after they collected victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 spot.

NCCU trailed the Bears 1-0 heading into singles action before the Eagles battled to tie the contest at 3-3.

Eagle junior Daniil Gerasimov seized a thrilling victory for NCCU at the No. 1 spot forcing a third set against Charles Silva (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4)), William East defeated Shaw's Bach Tran (6-2, 6-4) at the No. 4 spot and Fabrice George earned a win over the Bear's No. 5 Gafur Sirojiddinov (7-5, 6-2) while NCCU dropped the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.

As the match came down to the wire, Thomas Persico retired Andre Monti at the No. 6 spot (6-1, 7-5) while the two battled out the deciding over all match point.

Persico's victory pushed the Eagles on top of Shaw with a final score of 4-3.

NCCU returns to the courts on Saturday, April 12 as the Eagles compete in doubleheader action at Virginia Sate in Petersburg, Va., facing the VCU Trojans at 11 a.m. and Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m.
