2014 MEAC Women's Basketball Tournament Bracket (PDF)
NORFOLK, VA. – The 2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament has its women's bracket set and North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will open up tournament action facing the No. 8-seed Howard Lady Bison on Tuesday, March 11 at 11 a.m.
The Lady Eagles finished the regular season four spots ahead of their preseason prediction at No. 9 after concluding their best conference showing since the division I transition and rejoining the MEAC in 2011-12 with a 6-10 MEAC record. NCCU also tied the programs most wins since the transition with an 11-18 overall status.
During the regular season the Lady Eagles fell to Howard 66-61 on the road in Washington, D.C.
Women's action starts on Monday with No. 4 Florida A&M taking on No. 13 Delaware State beginning at 11 a.m., No. 5 Savannah State facing off against No. 12 Morgan State at 1:30 p.m. and concluding day one, No. 6 Norfolk State matches up with No. 11 Maryland Eastern Shore at 4 p.m.
NCCU opens day two, followed by the No. 7 Bethune-Cookman versus No. 10 South Carolina State battle at 1:30 p.m.
Earning its fourth-straight top seed and looking for its fifth-straight conference tournament crown, No. 1 Hampton is scheduled to take on the winner of the No. 8 Howard vs. No. 9 NCCU match-up on Wednesday at noon.
The MEAC's regular season runners-up, North Carolina A&T faces the No. 7 Bethune-Cookman vs. No. 10 South Carolina State winner on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., while Coppin State earned the No. 3 seed, receiving a three-day bye and will take on the winner of the No. 6 Norfolk State vs. No. 11 Maryland Eastern Shore game on Thursday, March 13 at 12 p.m.
The 2014 regular season champion, regular season runners-up, first-team members and top honorees including Player, Rookie, Defensive and Coach of the Year selections, will be recognized in pre-game presentations prior to the honorees first games in tournament play.
The 2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips-off Monday, March 10, and will conclude on Saturday, March 15 with the men's and women's championship games. The women's game will start at 3 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPN3 and tape-delayed on ESPNU beginning at Sunday, March 16, at 11 a.m. The men's finale will begin at 6 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPNU.
