THE GAME
DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team returns home as the Lady Eagles (8-13, 4-5) look to settle the score with the Bethune-Cookman (7-15, 4-6) and earn the programs first victory over the Lady Wildcats on Saturday, Feb. 8 inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium at 2 p.m.

DAVIS ON THE DOUBLE
  • Junior Racquel Davis has collected nine double-doubles this season (at Presbyterian, at South Florida, vs. Gardner-Webb and vs. Western Carolina, at Florida A&M, at Bethune-Cookman, vs. Coppin State, vs. Morgan State and at Howard), averaging a team second-best 13.2 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per contest.
  • Davis earned a season-best 15 rebounds at Presbyterian (Nov. 14) and 27 points at Florida A&M (Jan. 11).

THE FREEMAN FILE
  • NCCU redshirt senior guard Jessica Freeman leads the Lady Eagles this season averaging 14.5 points per game, shooting 104-for-310 from the field (.335), 46-for-144 from behind the arc (.319) and 51-for-67 from the free throw line (.761). She also leads the team steals (57) and third-best in assists (40).
  • Freeman has scored in double-figures during 16 of the teams 20 match-ups this season with four 20+ scoring performing, earning a season-high 26 on Dec. 19 during a 73-69 victory over Western Carolina.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • For the second consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up, North Carolina Central University junior Racquel Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Lady Eagles (8-13, 3-5) offensively, scoring a game-best 18 points as NCCU finished up the road series 0-2 falling to Maryland Eastern Shore (5-14, 1-6) 72-57 on Monday, Feb. 2 in Princess Anne, Md.
  • Davis collected 16 of her 18 points during second-half action shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe while also pulling down four rebounds for the Lady Eagles during the shortcoming.
  • Redshirt senior Jessica Freeman (Charlotte, N.C.) collected 14 points and added an additional four boards while rookie Alexus Hynes (Houston, Texas) earned a season-best seven points and three rebounds.
  • Opening the contest, NCCU went on a quick 9-3 run as the Lady Eagles saw their largest lead of the game at the 16:43 mark after Freeman knocked down a shot from behind the arc to put NCCU on top by six.
  • During the next four minutes the momentum switched in favor of the Lady Hawks as they tied the contest for the first time at the 12:56 mark off of a three pointer from Shawnee Sweeney, knotted the score at 13.
  • Rallied by sophomore UMES's Jessica Long's nine first half points and four steals, the Lady Hawks took a 16 point, 40-24 advantage into the locker room at the half.
  • The Lady Eagles were never able to cut the deficit under double-digits during the second half, as UMES pulled ahead by as many as 18 before the Lady Hawks earned their first MEAC victory of the season with the 72-57 win over NCCU.
  • Three Lady Hawks finished in double-figures led by Ashleigh Claybrooks 16 points and ten boards. Jessica Long and Alexis Udoji added 14 and 11 points respectively while Long seized a game-best five steals and Udoji collected seven assists.
  • As a team NCCU shot 19-for-45 from the field (42.2%), 3-for-14 from behind the arc (21.4%) and 16-for-22 from the charity stipe (72.7%), while collecting 31 boards, nine assists, two blocks and four steals.

SCOUTING THE LADY WILDCATS
  • During the last meeting between the Lady Wildcats and Lady Eagles B-CU earned its first MEAC victory defeating NCCU 67-52 in Daytona Beach.
  • During the Jan. 13 match-up, Shakeyia Colyer led all scorers with 22 points while Kailyn Williams added 14 points and 10 boards.
  • On the season, senior Chasity Rene Taylor leads the Lady Wildcats with a team-best 16.8ppg, ranking her eighth in the conference while Kailyn Williams leads the league in blocks with 2.9 bpg.
  • Last time out B-CU defeated SCSU 64-56 at home, led by Taylor's career high 29 points on 47.4 percent shooting; a total that included hitting four three pointers and 7-of-8 free throws.

  • NCCU host Florida A&M in the Lady Eagles and the Lady Rattlers second match-up of the season on Monday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
