Davis Led All-Scorers with 18 Points

Box Score PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – For the second consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up, North Carolina Central University junior Racquel Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Lady Eagles (8-13, 3-5) offensively, scoring a game-best 18 points as NCCU finished up the road series 0-2 falling to Maryland Eastern Shore (5-14, 1-6) 72-57 on Monday, Feb. 2 in Princess Anne, Md.

Davis collected 16 of her 18 points during second-half action shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe while also pulling down four rebounds for the Lady Eagles during the shortcoming.

Redshirt senior Jessica Freeman (Charlotte, N.C.) collected 14 points and added an additional four boards while rookie Alexus Hynes (Houston, Texas) earned a season-best seven points and three rebounds.

Opening the contest, NCCU went on a quick 9-3 run as the Lady Eagles saw their largest lead of the game at the 16:43 mark after Freeman knocked down a shot from behind the arc to put NCCU on top by six.

During the next four minutes the momentum switched in favor of the Lady Hawks as they tied the contest for the first time at the 12:56 mark off of a three pointer from Shawnee Sweeney, knotted the score at 13.

Rallied by sophomore UMES's Jessica Long's nine first half points and four steals, the Lady Hawks took a 16 point, 40-24 advantage into the locker room at the half.

The Lady Eagles were never able to cut the deficit under double-digits during the second half, as UMES pulled ahead by as many as 18 before the Lady Hawks earned their first MEAC victory of the season with the 72-57 win over NCCU.

Three Lady Hawks finished in double-figures led by Ashleigh Claybrooks 16 points and ten boards. Jessica Long and Alexis Udoji added 14 and 11 points respectively while Long seized a game-best five steals and Udoji collected seven assists.

As a team NCCU shot 19-for-45 from the field (42.2%), 3-for-14 from behind the arc (21.4%) and 16-for-22 from the charity stipe (72.7%), while collecting 31 boards, nine assists, two blocks and four steals.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8 as they welcome the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats to McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium in their second meeting of the season at 2 p.m.
