Written by Staci GreenDURHAM, N.C.- The North Carolina Central University volleyball team failed to keep up with the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats as they suffered a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-22, 26-24) Friday, Oct. 31 in the Leroy T. Walker Complex.
NCCU's offensive leader, outside hitter
Kelsey Murphy (Rancho Cucamonga, California), had a game-high 19 kills (.213).
Melissa Rabell Pineiro (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) headed the NCCU defense with 10 digs and
Alice Genna (Rome, Italy) contributed 17 assists.
The Eagles had a relatively slow pace in the first set, but jumped into the game for most of sets two and three.
NCCU led the Wildcats before B-CU knotted the score at 18 in the second set. The Wildcats managed to create a comeback and pull off the set 25-22.
After the 10-minute break the Eagles came out on fire, leading the entire third set up until set point, 24-20.
Bethune-Cookman capitalized on NCCU errors to bring about, yet, another comeback and go away with the set win (26-24) and a match sweep.
NCCU will return to action Sunday, Nov. 2 against the Florida A&M University Rattlers at 2 p.m. in the Leroy T. Walker Complex.
