NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: KELSEY MURPHY

Volleyball Sophomore Boasts 4.0 Grade Point Average as Business Administration Major

DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University women's volleyball sophomore Kelsey Murphy has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2014 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
 
A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Murphy collected team highs of 110 kills and 19 service aces to go along with 90 digs and 11 blocks during the month of September, averaging 2.3 kills and 1.9 digs per set in that time.
 
She was selected to the Wake Forest Invitational All-Tournament Team after recording 26 kills and 19 digs in four matches on the weekend of Sept. 5-6.
 
Murphy posted 11 kills against UNC-Asheville on Sept. 9, then closed out the month with three straight double-figure kill performances, amassing 10 kills, 11 digs and four aces versus Elon on Sept. 23, 12 kills and 10 digs at North Carolina A&T on Sept. 26, and 10 kills and seven digs at East Carolina on Sept. 30.
 
She currently leads the Lady Eagles with 204 kills and ranks third in the MEAC with an average of 0.4 service aces per set.
 
The sophomore boasts an unblemished 4.0 grade point average as a business administration major. She is considering a career in marketing.
