LAUREL, Md. – North Carolina Central University freshman Rachael Johnson gave a strong performance knocking down a total of 947 pins as the Lady Eagles participated in the Frederick E. Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic this weekend, Jan. 17-19, in Laurel, Md.
Johnson totaled 947 pins during the team competition, while maintaining a 189.4 average with a 238 game high.
In addition to NCCU, the three-day competition hosted by Bowie State consisted of 13 other bowling programs: Howard, Bowie State, Virginia State, Morgan State, Virginia Union, Coppin State, Hampton, Livingstone, Adelphi, St. Francis-Brooklyn, Fairleigh Dickinson, Norfolk, and Chowan.
During the four-game baker play on day one, the Lady Eagles defeated Chowan (548-427), Morgan State (665-576), and Howard (587-497). After finishing with a 3-2 record day one, NCCU struggled on day two of competition during the five-player team matches. NCCU finished with a 2-3 record defeating Hampton (828-806) and Virginia Union (829-787). NCCU finished the competition on Sunday with baker play with a 1-2 record.
NCCU senior Kourtney Rodez finished with a high score of 210 and an average of 177.8, clearing 889 total pins.
NCCU will return to lanes as participants in the 2014 Kutztown Invitational on Jan. 24-26 in Reading, Pa.
