 THE GAME
The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team (6-9, 1-1 MEAC) returns home after a four-game road stretch looking for its second MEAC win, first at home, Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m., hosting the Delaware State Hornets (4-11, 0-4 MEAC) in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
  • Led by redshirt junior, Tierra Hawkins, the Hornets are currently on a two-game lose streak falling to Hampton, 79-39 (Jan. 11) and Norfolk State, 57-48 (Jan. 13).
  • Hawkins currently averages a double-double on the season with 21.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
  • Rookie Raven Bankston earned her fourth MEAC Rookie of the Week honors on Jan. 13 where she averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists in a pair of games.
 DAVIS ON THE DOUBLE
  • Racquel Davis has collected six double-doubles this season (at Presbyterian, at South Florida, vs. Gardner-Webb and vs. Western Carolina, at Florida A&M and at Bethune-Cookman) with 12 total double-digit scoring performances.
  • The junior leads NCCU, averaging 13.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.
  • Davis earned a season-best 15 rebounds at Presbyterian (Nov. 14) and 27 points at Florida A&M (1/11).
 LAST TIME OUT
  • Held without a field goal for over seven minutes during the second half, the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team dropped its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up of the season falling to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats, 67-52, on Monday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
  • Senior Jessica Freeman (Charlotte, N.C.) led NCCU offensively with a team-best 17 points, junior Racquel Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned her sixth double-double of the season chipping in 14 points and 11 boards and fellow junior Khyra Conerly (Oakland, Calif.) added 14 points during the Lady Eagle shortcoming.
  • As a team, NCCU shot 19-for-54 from the field (35.2 percent), 5-for-14 from behind the arc (35.7%) and 9-for-12 form the charity stripe (75%), while pulling down a game-best 35 rebounds and collecting nine assists, one block and nine steals.
