Kalin Russell came away from the Elon Phoenix Classic with all-tournament team honors after recording 25 total kills over the weekends three-game span, Sept. 13-14, in Elon, N.C.
After falling to East Carolina during day one 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-19), the Eagles dropped Saturday's opening match-up against host Elon 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-11) and closed the classic with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20) loss to Gardner-Webb.
Russell, the Baldwin, N.Y. native, recorded 25 kills, three block assists, one service aces and 12 digs in three matches on Friday and Saturday, including a team-high 11 kills and seven digs in the 3-1 loss to G-WU.
During game one on Saturday, the Eagles opened play with a 3-0 setback to event host Elon. Russell topped NCCU with eight kills along with five digs. Junior Da'sha Brown added nine kills, while rookie

Ashley McCarthy blocked three Elong hits.
In NCCU's second match Saturday, the Eagles split the first two sets with Gardner-Webb before dropping the third set and eventually the match, 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20). Besides Anthony's aforementioned leading statistics, Brown chipped in 12 kills and 14 digs recording her first double-double as an Eagle
NCCU (0-12) returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to host the East Carolina Priates at 7 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Gym. Admission is free.
