Lady Eagles Earn 15 Hits during Senior Day

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team closed out the 2013 campaign with a 10-2 six inning victory over the rival Aggies of North Carolina A&T during senior day on Sunday, May 5, 2013 in Durham, N.C., at Parkwood Athletic Field.  

The Aggies struck first during the top of the second inning after they collected two unearned runs pulling ahead 2-0 off of two hits, two errors and two left on base.

During the bottom of the third Mae’Risha Watts started the inning advancing to first after being hit by a pitch. Watts advanced to second after London Germ singled to left center.

Freshman Markell Wylie bunted for a single to the pitcher as Watts and Germ advanced safely.

After Emerie Germ flied out to left field Bianka Molina earned an RBI off a walk, scoring Watts. Tiphani Jackson’s sacrifice fly to center field scored L.Germ tying the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Lady Eagles pulled ahead after Molina singled up the middle followed by Nadia Jefferies single to shortstop. Junior transfer Camille Hampton scored Molina with a single to center field.

Angelique Perricelli’s single to third base loaded the bases for the Lady Eagles.

Rookie De’Onna Smith earned her first career home run after clearing the bases with a grand slam over the left center fence putting NCCU on top of the Aggies 9-2.

The Lady Eagles held NC A&T scoreless during the top of the sixth before Perricelli’s walk off single to short stop scored Molina giving NCCU the 10-2 victory.

Senior Kayla McPeek started on the mound for the Lady Eagles throwing two innings, giving up three hits and two unearned runs, while striking out one Aggie.

London Booker (3-27) earned the win for NCCU after pitching the final four innings for the Lady Eagles. The Rookie pitcher gave up one hit, no runs, one walk and struck out three batters earning her 103 season strike out.

The Lady Eagles finished the 2013 season 5-44 overall and 3-11 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
