DURHAM, N.C. (
www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – During the North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team’s third straight victory, the Eagles honored lone senior Jose Fabara as they defeated Northern Division Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference member Hampton, in a 5-1 victory on Tuesday, April 9, in Durham, N.C., on the NCCU Tennis Courts.
In doubles competition the duo of
Fabrice George and
Stephan Charles-Donatien captured the first point for the Eagles with an 8-1 victory over Hampton’s Lakshmana Satchithananthan and Kenneth Greene in the No. 2 spot. The No. 1 singles combination of
Daniil Gerasimov and Fabara earned the second victory for NCCU after their 4-2 set lead was retired due to injury.
With a 1-0 lead over the Pirates heading into singles play No. 1 Gerasimov and No. 4 Charles-Donatien cleared the courts first with 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1 victories respectively.
Fabara captured a fourth NCCU point in the No. 3 spot defeating Satchithananthan 6-4, 6-2, while
Tamina Kienka received a victory over Greene in a 5-1 retired match.
The 5-1 win over Hampton advances the Eagles to 4-9 overall on the season.
NCCU returns to the courts on Friday, April 12 as they host Liberty University in a 1:30 p.m., match-up in Durham, N.C., on the NCCU Tennis Courts.
