DURHAM, N.C. (
www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – After capturing the doubles victory, the North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to the Longwood University Lancers on Wednesday, April 3, in Durham, N.C., on the NCCU Tennis Courts.
NCCU sophomore, Kingstown, St. Vincent native,
Fabrice George captured the Eagles lone singles victory as he defeated Longwood’s Justin Higgs, 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-3), in the No. 5 spot.
The Eagles opened competition winning two of the three doubles matches securing a 1-0 lead over the Lancers. George and
Stephan Charles-Donatien defeated LU’s Giorgi Khmiadashvili 8-5 in the No. 2 spot while the No. 3 duo of
Thomas Persico and
Tamina Kienka were victorious over the Lancers Steed Johnson and James Fugde (8-4).
During singles play, Longwood captured its first point after Daniel Elston defeated Persico (6-1, 6-1) in the No. 2 spot.
Jose Fabara then fell to Edward Becker at No. 3 (6-2, 7-6 (9-7)) giving Longwood a 2-1 advantage followed by the Lancers No. 4 Kelleher being victorious over Charles-Donatien (7-6 (10-8), 6-3),
Daniil Gerasimov falling to Khmiadashvili (6-4, 7-5) at No. 1, and Bharani Sankar defeating NCCU’s Kienka (6-3, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7)).
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 6 as they host the Rams from Winston-Salem State University at 12 p.m., in Durham, N.C., on the NCCU Tennis Courts.
