WASHINGTON, D.C. – The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team closed the 2013 campaign with a road victory over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division opponent Howard Bison, 6-1, on Sunday, April 14, in Washington, D.C.
During doubles action the Eagles collected the first point after sweeping the Bison during all three matches.
The No. duo 1 of
Daniil Gerasimov and
Jose Fabara defeated Spencer Mitchell and Myron Davis 8-1, Stephan Charles and
Fabrice George were victorious over Howard’s Brandon Burns and Bogdan Dzakovic 8-1 and the No. 3 team of
Thomas Persico and
Tamina Kienka swept Nico Sorrel and Serbia Kendall, 8-0.
In singles competition the Eagles added five more points to their lead after Gerasimov defeated Mitchell at No.1 (6-0, 6-0), Persico was victorious as NCCU’s No.3 (6-2,6-1), Charles swept Howard’s Kendall (6-0, 6-0), while George and
Jamal Hoyte won at the No. 5 and 6 singles spot, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3 respectivley.
Howards lone victory came as Fabara’s hard fought battle against Davis fell short as he was defeated 6-4, 6-1 (10-6).
The Eagles ended the season with a 6-10 overall record, winning five of their last six matches of the 2013 season.
