MOLINA EARNS SHUTOUT DURING NCCU SOFTBALL’S 4-0 VICTORY OVER SCSU

E. Germ Finishes 4-for-6 at the Plate during Doubleheader

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University softball captured its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory as the Lady Eagles split the doubleheader match-up with the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State University, 4-2 and 4-0 on Saturday, April 13 in Durham, N.C., at Parkwood Athletic Field.

During game two, senior pitcher Bianka Molina earner her first victory and the Lady Eagles first shutout of the season after she pitched a complete seven innings, gave up six hits, no runs, walked two batters and struck out eight.

NCCU put the first run of the game on the board during the second inning after junior transfer Camille Hampton earned her second double of the afternoon down the left field line.

Redshirt freshman Joy Simpson reached first base with a single hit to short stop advancing Hampton to third base. Simpson then stole second base forcing the Lady Bulldogs to throw the ball to second base, scoring Hampton from third.

The Lady Eagles scored two additional runs to their lead during the fifth inning.

Rookie, Fayetteville, N.C., native, Markell Wylie hit a single to the SCSU right fielder and advanced to third after her hit was mishandled in the outfield.

Junior transfer London Germ then stepped to the plate and knocked a triple over center fields head, scoring Wylie before Nadia Jefferies singled to short stop and scored Germ giving NCCU a 3-0 advantage over SCSU.

A double hit by junior Regina Diaz during the bottom of the sixth, scored Hampton from first, sealing the deal for the Lady Eagles and giving them the 4-0 conference victory.

NCCU collected eight hits and earned all four runs off of Lady Bulldog pitcher Vianney Gomez during game two while committing no errors.

In game one of the doubleheader the Lady Eagles scored two quick runs during the first inning following a two-out rally lead by Emerie Germs single to left field.

Hampton followed Germ with a double to left center, scoring her teammate, followed by Molina’s hit being bobbled at second base allowing Hampton to cross home plate safely.

Innings two and three remained scoreless between both teams before the Lady Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 during the top of the second inning.

NCCU was unable to battle back allowing SCSU to score once more during the sixth and seventh innings with no answer on the offensive end, giving the Lady Bulldogs the 4-2 victory.

Rookie pitcher London Booker threw a complete game for the Lady Eagles during the first contest, giving up 10 hits, four runs, two earned runs, walking one SCSU batter and striking out six.

NCCU softball returns to the field on Sunday, April 14 as the Lady Eagles battle during game three of the series against the Lady Bulldogs at home, in Durham, N.C., on Parkwood Athletic Field. First pitch for game three is set for 12 p.m.
