DURHAM, N.C. (
www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – During two weekend matches the North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team extended its 2013 campaign start to 9-3 after defeating UNC-Asheville 7-0 in Asheville, N.C., on Saturday, March 9, and Western Carolina 4-3 in Durham, N.C., on Sunday, March 10.
During day one, against UNCA, the Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead over the Lady Eagles after doubles competition.
Olesya Palko and
Aissa Muamba were defeated in the No. 1 spot by Zoe Hamel and Erickia Rivero (8-6) and in the No. 3 spot
Mia Ramic and
Brianna Gatson suffered a loss to Amryn Soldier and Gillian Lewis (8-3). The duo of
Rebecca Wood and
Ekaterina Nekrasova were victorious during their doubles action beating UNCA’s Christin Boissevian and Emily McNall (8-6).
In singles play, Palko defeated Hamel (6-4, 6-1), Nekrasova beat McNall (6-4, 6-2), UNCA’s Rivero fell to Muamba (6-2, 6-1), Ramic was victorious over Boissevian (6-2, 6-3) and Gatson beat Lewis in a three game decision (6-2, 4-6, 9-7).
Against Western Carolina, NCCU clinched a 4-3 decision.
Nekrasova defeated Karen Jimenez 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot event, while Muamba defeated Nicole Nielly 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 (No. 3) and Wood overpowered Sara Pajares 6-0, 6-7, 6-3 (No.4).
Mumba victory marks her 11 consecutive victory this season.
During doubles play, Nekrasova and Wood united as the No. 1 singles team to conquer Nielly and Shannon Bettiol 8-1.
