SPENCER JONES TOPS NCCU GOLF IN BASH AT THE BEACH INVITATIONAL

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – North Carolina Central University junior golfer Spencer Jones shot a final-round 73 (+2) to tie for 34th place in the individual standings at the “Bash at the Beach” Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University at The Surf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 10-12.

Jones carded scores of 75, 75 and 73 on the 6,741-yard, par-71 course to top the Eagles. During the three-day event, Jones played the par-5 holes at 2-under par and recorded 33 pars overall.

NCCU junior transfer Glendon Mabe saved his best golf for last by posting a 76 (+5) on Tuesday to tie for 58th place. Mabe, who tallied a team-best eight birdies in his three rounds, shot a 77 on Sunday and an 81 on Monday.

Rookie Garreth Carpenter, who recorded two eagles during the tournament, opened the invitational with a 76 (+5), then closed out with scores of 81 and 80 to place 63rd in the individual standings. Fellow freshman Michael Wilson placed 64th with scores of 84, 79 and 83, while junior Andre Jones finished 65th with scores of 84, 86, 92.

As a team, NCCU placed 11th in the 11-team field, finishing 30 strokes behind Wright State. Radford edged Jacksonville by five shots to win the invitational team title.
