NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-conference squads for the 2012-13 women’s basketball season and North Carolina Central University had two members named to the MEAC All-Rookie team. The freshman duo of
Tisha Dixon and
Amber Neely were both named to the Rookie All-Conference team on Sunday, March 10.
Dixon finished the regular season fifth in the MEAC in rebounding with 8.0 boards per game, collecting an impressive 225 boards during her rookie campaign. The Kinston, N.C., native amassed four double-doubles during the 2012-2013 season with her best outing on Jan. 26 against Coppin State when the rookie pulled down 17 boards and scored ten points. Dixon also collected her season-high in rebounds on Jan. 12 at Florida A&M when she posted 18. The Lady Eagle forward earned nine double-digit rebounding performances during the season and 10 double-digit outings in scoring with her season-high of 14 points against the rival Lady Aggies from North Carolina A&T on Feb. 23. Dixon earned MEAC Rookie of the week honors on Feb. 4 and Feb. 24.
Neely ended her freshman season averaging 6.4 points per game and ranking No. 14 in the MEAC in steals with 1.8 per contest. The Charlotte, N.C., guard had her best performance on Dec. 22 against Gardner-Webb when the rookie scored a season-high of 16 points and pulled down a season-high of 11 rebounds. Neely earned eight double-digit scoring performances during her rookie campaign and collected a season-high of four steals on two occasions at Coastal Carolina (Nov. 12) and at Bethune-Cookman (Jan. 14). Neely was named MEAC Rookie of the week on Dec. 24 and Nov. 26.
The Lady Eagles ended the regular season with a 2-27 record overall, 2-14 in MEAC play and will begin the 2013 MEAC Basketball Championship on Monday, March 11 as NCCU takes on Coppin State at 1:30 in the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
