Racquel Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lead the way offensively for the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team as the Lady Eagles (4-4) dropped their second-straight contest falling to the Campbell University Lady Camels (6-2), 56-45, on Monday, Dec. 16 inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium.
Davis led all-scorers with 16 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line, while also pulling down a team-best nine boards and one steal.
The Lady Eagles struck first, scoring four unanswered baskets, before Campbell saw its first basket at the 16:31 mark. A three-point basket from the Lady Camels Jessica Moore tied the contest at four with 14:58 left in the first frame.
The remainder of the first half continued to be a back-and-forth battle when a basket from senior
Tiffany Gary (Delray Beach, Fla.), as the first half clock expired, tied the game at 28.
The momentum shifted in favor of the Lady Camels during second half action as Campbell opened up the second twenty minutes on a 10-2 run, giving them their largest lead of the game at eight.
Davis' made shot from the charity stripe with 7:12 left in the game brought the deficit within one at 44-43, before the Lady Camels pushed a 12-2 run to close out the 11-point, 56-45 victory.
Roslyn Presley led Campbell offensively with 15 points while Kiera Gaines dominated on the boards for the Lady Camels grasping 10 rebounds.
As a team, NCCU shot 16-for-48 from the field (33.3%), 11-for-16 from the foul line (68.8%) and 2-for-13 from behind the arc (15.4%), while collecting 32 rebounds, 12 assists, four blocks and eight steals.
NCCU continues home action on Thursday, Dec. 19 as the Lady Eagles host the Western Carolina Catamounts in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
