Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team dropped only its third match to the rival Aggies of North Carolina A&T since the Eagles transition to division I in 2007, falling 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-21) on Friday, Oct. 25, inside Moore Gymnasium on the campus of NCAT in Greensboro, N.C.
NCCU was led offensively by senior
Kalin Russell who earned a team-best 10 kills on 19 attempts with five errors.
In addition to Russell's efforts, junior Da'sha Brown and rookie
Kelsey Murphy each added six kills to the Eagle offense while junior setter
Alice Genna circulated a team-high 18 assists on the night.
Defensively, NCCU junior
Ashley McCarthy led the way earning eight digs while also blocking two Aggie attacks.
Never leading during set one, the Eagles only witnessed leads during the open points during games two and three.
Late during set three, while the Aggies were playing for match point and the score at 24-16, NCCU went on a 5-0 run battling back before dropping the game 25-21.
As a team, NCCU collected 27 kills on 79 attempts, 26 digs, 26 assists, one service ace and two team blocks.
NCAT was led by Aleena McDaniel who earned a game-high 12 kills and Te'Borah Hawkins who hit .833 for the Aggies with 10 kills on 12 attempts, with no errors.
McDaniel also contributed seven digs for NCAT, while Ashley Johnson led the match with 12.
Contributing to the Aggies .442 team hitting percentage was the setting duo of Liz Martino and Chelsea Fox who dished 15 and 19 assists respectively.
NCAT earned 41 team kills on 77 attempts, dug 34 NCCU attacks, collected 40 assists, 11 service aces, and three team blocks.
NCCU drops to 12-3 all-time to NCAT since the 2007 division I transition, 2-22 on the season and 2-4 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play while the Aggies advance to 5-20 on the year and 4-2 in league play.
The Eagles return home to Durham, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 1 as they host the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
