DIXON’S 18 BOARDS NOT ENOUGH TO PUSH NCCU PAST FLORIDA A&M

Lady Eagles Fall to Conference Foe 52-35

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – North Carolina Central University women’s basketball freshmen Tisha Dixon collected a season-high 18 rebounds as the Lady Eagles fell to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Florida A&M 52-35 Saturday Jan. 12, in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Al Lawson Center.

Dixon topped her season-high on the boards collecting the most rebounds by any Lady Eagle since NCCU's Cassie King grasped 19 rebounds on Feb. 7, 2004. Dixon also contributed a team-high of eight points and two steals for the Lady Eagles.

Sophomore Montreshia Perry also added eight points coming off the NCCU bench shooting 2-for-5 from the 3 point line, while freshmen Aja Hoyle scored seven points and stole five FAMU possessions and Amber Neely scored six points and dished out five of the Lady Eagles six assists.

NCCU took its first lead of the game, 11-10, at the 10:07 mark after a layup from Perry, taking the lead three more times in the first half and tying the ball game twice. 

The Lady Rattlers took their largest lead of the half with 15 seconds left, before heading into the locker room on top of the Lady Eagles 33-20.

At the half Dixon already collected 10 of her 18 rebounds and contributed five Lady Eagle baskets.

During the second half FAMU continued to add on to its lead, taking a game-high twenty point lead with 7:56 left in regulation.

As a team the Lady Eagles shot 26.8 percent from the field on 11-for-41 shooting, pulled down 32 boards, captured 10 steals, forced 23 Lady Rattler turnovers and shot 11-for-20 from the charity stripe.

FAMU was led offensively by Jasmine Grice who finished with a game-high 13 points, dished out four assists, and stole eight Lady Eagle possessions. Jamie Forman led the Lady Rattlers on the boards grabbing a team-high of 12 boards while contributing an additional 11 points while blocking two NCCU shots.

Collectively, FAMU knocked down 23 of their 53 shots from the field, shooting 43.4 percent, grabbed 35 total rebounds, dished out 14 assists and stole 23 Lady Eagle possessions while shooting 2-for-4 from the free throw line.

The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood Monday Jan. 14, as they complete their two-game conference road trip in Daytona Beach, Fla., where they will take on the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman.
