THE GAME
The North Carolina Central University softball team returns home to host fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes the Tigers of Savannah State University in two days of competition beginning on Friday, April 6 and concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7 at the Walnut Creek Softball Field in Raleigh, N.C.
 
THE SERIES
The Lady Eagles and the Tigers meet for the third time in school’s history this weekend.

  • The Tigers are 12-19 overall and 2-5 on the road

The mighty maroon returns to the Palmetto State to take on the Bulldogs of South Carolina State for a three-game MEAC matchup.

LAST DIAMOND CONTEST: NCCU 0 at College of Charleston 2 (April 4, 2012):
CHARLESTON, S.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University freshman Martha Batie guided the Lady Eagles with three hits, while junior Nadia Jefferies and sophomore Cember Carmichael notched two hits apiece in a doubleheader 13-2 and 10-2 loss to College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday, April 4.

In game one of the evening, Batie snapped a 9-0 run by slugging two hits to send two maroon and gray runners home in the top of the fourth.  Batie and junior Sarah Kaiser tallied one run apiece.

Bianka Molina led the pitching campaign for NCCU with 3.2 innings from the mound, where she allowed 12 hits and 13 runs against 26 batters.  Junior Kayla McPeek relieved Molina for less than an inning of action to face one batter.

Lizzy Vaughn led the Cougars with three hits and four runs, as Mackenzie Maples attained two hits and three RBI on three times at bat.  Hope Klicker pitched for 3.0 innings.  In her time in the circle, Klicker allowed one hit and struck out six batters.  Alex Pizzoli followed Klicker with 2.0 innings of action from the mound to permit three hits and two runs against eight batters.

During game two of the night, Jefferies and Carmichael attained two hits apiece, while Carmichael and McPeek gathered one run apiece.  Senior Aurora Baker maintained the mound with 4.0 innings of action, where she allowed 10 hits and 10 runs, while striking out one batter against 20 Cougars.

Courtney Clark led the College of Charleston in game two with two hits and two RBI on three times at bat.  Jen Rosene pitched a complete game with 5.0 innings of play to allow six hits and two runs against 19 batters.

The Lady Eagles will return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action with a single contest on Friday, April 6 at 4:00 p.m., followed with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7 at 12:00/2:00 p.m. against Savannah State in Raleigh, N.C., at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
