NCCU SOFTBALL DROPS WEEKEND SERIES TO SOUTH CAROLINA STATE

Lady Eagles Amass 21 Hits and Six Runs in Weekend Action

www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - While the North Carolina Central University softball team tallied six runs and 21 hits, the Bulldogs of South Carolina State University still managed to secure three wins over two days of play in Orangeburg, S.C., on April 14-15.

In Saturday, April 14 doubleheader action, SCSU beat NCCU 7-4 and 2-1, while concluding the weekend with a 2-1 win on Sunday, April 15 on its home field.

NCCU senior Andrea Searls opened game one with three hits and two runs, as sophomore Cember Carmichael attained two RBI and one hit.  Senior Aurora Baker pitched a complete game for NCCU.  While on the mound Baker, faced 30 batters, allowed five hits, seven runs and struck out three batters.

SCSU’s offense was led by Vianney Gomez and T. Giles, Gomez gathered two runs, one hit and one RBI, as Giles slugged one hit and attained two RBI.  Gomez also found action in the circle as the Bulldog’s winning pitcher.  She accumulated two strikes against 31 NCCU batters, while allowing eight hits and four runs.

The second game on Saturday went into to one extra inning action.  

SCSU obtained a run in the bottom of the first, which NCCU responded with a single run in the top of the fourth.  Both teams went runless in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning.

The mighty maroon made its best effort to clinch a run and take the lead with Tiphani Jackson reaching third base before SCSU putout three NCCU runners. 

The Bulldogs sealed the win in the bottom of the eighth with a run by Tiffany Harris.

Carmichael continued her offensive lead with two hits and one RBI, as fellow sophomore Regina Diaz gathered one hit and the only run of the contest.  Junior Bianka Molina pitched a complete game in 7.2 innings.  Molina allowed eight hits, two runs and struck out two SCSU batters, while facing 32.

Harris guided the Bulldogs with two runs and two hits, while Raven Johnson and Gomez shared the pitching effort.  In 7.0 innings Johnson allowed seven hits, one run and struck out two against 25 NCCU batters.  Gomez entered the circle for one inning of action to face three batters.

Sunday concluded the series with SCSU taking another 2-1 win.

Searls slugged two hits and gathered one RBI, while Molina pitched her second complete game.  In 6.0 innings, Molina struck out two batters, as she allowed six hits and two runs against 22 batters.

Giles added to her hitting statistics from game one, with two hits and one run for SCSU.  

NCCU drops to 3-39 on the season, 2-9 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play and 0-6 in the southern division.
