NCCU WOMEN’S TENNIS CONTINUES ITS SWING TO THE CONFERENCE TITLE

Lady Eagles Defeat Hampton 4-2 in Opening Road of the MEAC Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University swept the doubles point and clinched three singles victories to defeat the Pirates of Hampton University 4-2 in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament in Raleigh, N.C., at Millbrook Tennis Center.
 
No. 1 doubles duo Cameron Chatman and Olesya Palko defeated Melanie Scott and Tabita Daolio 8-1, No. 2 doubles pair Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood beat Barenese Myers and Maria Ycaza 8-1, while No. 3 doubles team Lakisha Mcdougald and Julia Aguilar tallied their first doubles win of the season off a 8-1 victory over Calisia Reid and Danielle Butler.
 
Palko, Chatman and Wood continued the winning stride during singles play.  Palko beat Reid 6-1, 6-1, as Chatman overpowered Myers 6-3, 6-1 and Wood conquered Ycaza 7-5, 6-1. 
 
Among NCCU teams that have participated in single-elimination tournament action, the women’s tennis team is the second squad to advance to the second round.
 
The maroon and gray continues MEAC Women’s Tennis Tournament play on Saturday, April 14 at 8:30 a.m. in Raleigh, N.C., against South Carolina State on the Millbrook Tennis Center courts.
