NORFOLK, VA. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - While the North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team concluded the two-day, March 3-4 Virginia competition without a win, freshman Jamal Hoyte served up his first win as an Eagle during singles play against Hampton before finishing up against Norfolk State.
NCCU dropped a 3-4 decision to Hampton on Saturday, March 3, in Hampton, Va., and loss 1-6 to Norfolk State on Sunday, March 4 in Norfolk, Va.
During the Eagles’ match against Hampton, senior Jack Waissen defeated Alvin Fludd, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while Hoyte beat Isaiah Stewart 6-3, 6-1. In doubles competition, junior Jose Fabara and senior Alejandro Espitia clinched an 8-3 win over Kenneth Greene and Lakshmana Satchihananthan.
Waissen gathered the only singles win on Sunday against Norfolk State by defeating Ben Marks, 6-4, 6-3. Fabara and Espitia tallied another doubles win by overpowering Igor Braga and Daniel Grauel 8-3.
The mighty maroon returns to action on Monday, March 12 as they venture to Orlando, Fla., to take on Northern Illionis, Quinnipiac (March 13) and Franklin and Marshall (March 15).
