Lady Eagles only drop a singles match in MEAC competition

– The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University seized its fourth Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win of the 2012 campaign with a 6-1 victory over Morgan State University on Friday, March 30 on the NCCU Tennis Courts in Durham, N.C., on the NCCU campus.

The home event opened with MEAC doubles play, partners senior Cameron Chatman and Olesya Palko, Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood, and Lakisha McDougald and Julia Aguilar went undefeated in doubles play.

Chatman and Palko defeated Arina Alileuva and Margarita Belyakova, 8-4, Nekrasova and Wood beat Jasmine Edwards and Tiffany Hughes, 8-5 and the No. 3 doubles team won by forfeit.

The mighty maroon snatched the singles win by seizing five-of-the-six victories.

Palko defeated Belyahova 6-1, 7-5, as Chatman beat her MSU opponent in a difficult vigorous 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 battle. Nekrasova overpowered Edwards 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-7, while Wood closed out head-to-head competition with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hughes.
The Lady Eagles advance to 7-7 on the season.

NCCU returns to action on Friday, April 6 against Radford University on the NCCU Tennis Courts in Durham, N.C., at 3:30 p.m.
