NCCU at Winston-Salem State
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team notched its first win of the season in a 5-4 victory on Wednesday, Feb. 15 afternoon contest against the Rams of Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
In doubles play, senior Jack Waissen and freshman Tamina Kienka trumped WSSU’s Jonathan Aubrey and Leandro Imaz, 8-0, while senior Alejandro Espitia and junior Jose Fabara defeated Chris Jeter and Creighton Jones 8-2.
Waissen kicked-off singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Drew Dunzweiler in the No. 1 singles spot, as Fabara obtained his second win against Jeter with a 6-1, 6-0 win as the No. 2 singles player.
NCCU’s Kienka and freshman Jamal Hoyte suffered the two head-to-head losses with Kienka dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Leandro Imaz and Hoyte losing 6-3, 7-5 to Jones.
The Eagles return to racket-to-racket battle with a Saturday, Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m. matchup against Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.
