DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - In a 6-1 loss to the Lady Pirates of East Carolina University on Friday, Feb. 10, North Carolina Central University freshman Rebecca Wood seized her first career win on the NCCU Tennis Courts in Durham, N.C.
Wood was the lone Lady Eagle to walk away with a singles win as she defeated ECU’s Danielle Terpko, 2-6, 7-5 (10-4) as the No. 4 singles player.
Oleysa Palko competed as the No. 1 singles player, where she fell 6-4, 6-3 to ECU’s Yilian Zang. NCCU’s Cameron Chatman dropped a 6-3, 6-7 (7-5) decision to Renata Bakieva, while Ekaterina Nekrasova lost 6-2, 6-3 to Natalie Collins and Julia Aguilar concluded singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Dana Gray.
During doubles play, Chatman and Palko competed in the No. 1 spot, while Nekrasova and Wood battled in the No. 2 position. During the match-opening portion of play, Chatman and Palko were defeated by Terpko and Zhang 7-7 (5) and Nekrasova and Wood dropped an 8-6 decision to Bakieva and Collins.
The Lady Eagles return to road action with a Sunday, Feb. 19 matchup against Virginia State at 1:00 p.m. in Petersburg, Va.
