GREENVILLE, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team kept the game within ten points major of the first half before falling to the Lady Pirates of East Carolina University 65-28 on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.

Tiffany Gary led the squad one point shy of a double-double, scoring nine points and a season and game-high 12 rebounds, while freshmen
Tisha Dixon contributed an additional nine points and pulled down four rebounds.
In the opening minutes of play, NCCU took a short two-point lead off an opening basket from Dixon. The Lady Pirates quickly responded, claiming a 13-2 run.
NCCU’s Gary broke the run with a layup at the 14:40 mark.
At the half, Gary had six points and six rebounds, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.
Starting the second half, ECU went on an 11-1 run, giving the Lady Pirates a 20 point with 15:57 left to play. NCCU struggled offensively for the remainder of the second half, shooting 15 percent from the field, allowing ECU to capture a 37 point victory.
On the night, the Lady Eagles shot 24 percent from the field, 10-for-25 from the charity stripe, collected 33 rebounds, dished out four assists, while forcing 13 Lady Pirate turnovers.
Britny Edwards and Celeste Stewart led ECU on the night contributing 12 points apiece. Edwards pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Stewart collected five rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Pirates were 39 percent from the field, shooting 27-for-69 from the field and 6-for-20 from long range. ECU shot 5-for-7 from the free throw line, grabbed 46 rebounds, 13 steals, blocked four Lady Eagle shots and forced 27 NCCU turnovers.
On the season, the maroon and gray drops to 0-9, as ECU advances to 7-2.
The Lady Eagles return to the road for a Friday, Dec. 7 matchup against Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., at 11:00 a.m.
