DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior guard
Chasidy Williams poured in 16 of her team-high 20 points after intermission and added 11 rebounds for her 12th career double-double, but it was not enough for the Lady Eagles in a 63-44 loss to Winthrop University on Saturday inside McDougald-McLendon Gym in Durham, N.C.
The visiting Eagles of Winthrop sizzled the nets from long range, draining 12 of 26 three-point attempts for a shooting percentage of 46.2 percent from behind the arc. Senior Diana Choibekova led the way with seven three-pointers as part of her game-high 23-point performance.
Winthrop had two other double-figure scorers with Aliyah Kilpatrick collecting 10 points, six rebounds and a team-best six assists, and Samiya Wright posting 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. Schaquilla contributed six points along with team-highs of eight rebounds and two blocked shots for the visitors.

Besides Winthrop’s blistering shooting from long distance, many other statistical categories were nearly even. In fact, both teams had identical rebounding numbers, with 36 total boards, including 15 on the offensive glass.
Winthrop bettered the home team by shooting 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from the field compared to 31.4 percent (16-for-51) by the Lady Eagles. However, NCCU connected on 12 of 15 free throws (80.0 percent) stacked up against Winthrop’s 5-for-7 shooting from the charity stripe (71.4 percent).

Winthrop’s second straight victory improves its record to 5-4, while NCCU will bring a 0-12 record into its next contest at UNC-Greensboro on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
