NCCU LADY EAGLES FALL TO RIVAL AGGIES 67-27

Lady Eagles Struggle Offensively during First MEAC Competition

GREENSBORO, N.C. – During first-year head coach Vanessa Taylor’s first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game and the 31st meeting between the North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team and the rival Lady Aggies from North Carolina A&T State University, the Lady Eagles struggled offensively falling to NCA&T 67-27, Saturday Dec. 1, in the Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Redshirt senior Chasidy Williams led the maroon and gray with eight points and five rebounds, while junior Tiffany Gary contributed five points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Lady Aggies jumped out to an early 11-0 lead before freshmen Aja Hoyle made a jumper at the 15:47 mark to end the NCCU scoring drought. Tracy King powered NCA&T shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and 2-of-2 from three-point range in the first half, scoring 13 points.

Lady Eagle freshman Amber Neely scored six straight points, leading the team at the half with six of their 13 points.

Despite shooting 6-of-25 from the field, the Lady Eagles forced 11 first half turnovers of the Lady Aggies and trailed 42-13 at intermission.

All eight of Williams’ points came during the second half of action, shooting 2-of-10 from the field and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.

NCCU finished the conference match-up shooting 9-of-46 from the field at 19 percent, pulled down 33 rebounds and shot 64 percent from the free throw line, 9-of-14.

The Lady Aggies finished the competition on a 6-0 run, giving them their largest lead of the game, 40, and a final score of 67-27.

NCA&T’s King and Jessica Lyons finished the game scoring in double-figures. King finished with 22 points, followed by Lyons 10. JaQuayla Berry finished with a team-high of nine rebounds for the Lady Aggies.

NCCU falls to 0-8 overall and 0-1 in MEAC competition, as NCA&T advances to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Lady Eagles continue road-play traveling to Greenville, N.C., to take on the Lady Pirates of East Carolina University on Tuesday, Dec.4 at 7 p.m.
