ATLANTA – The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team won seven out of 15 matches during weekend competition at the HBCU National Tennis Championships in Atlanta on Sept. 27-29.
In the consolation finals, NCCU sophomore
Tamina Kienka won to bring home the third-place finish for the Eagles. Kienka posted a 2-1 record, beating Andrew Williams (Hampton) 8-5 and Justin Payton (Prairie View) 8-4.
The doubles team of
Jamal Hoyte and Kienka went 2-1 for the Eagles. In the Hoyte/Kienka doubles match against Dingle/Payton (Prairie View), Hoyte/Kienka were down 7-4 before a comeback win.
Hoyte went 2-1 in singles play, defeating Dangelo Smith (Benedict College) by default and beating Justin Payton (Prairie View) 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.
Jose Fabara went 1-1 as he defeated Kahai Hall (Morehouse) for his only victory.
Fabrice George was 1-2 during singles play.
