DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University sophomore Olesya Plako gained her 11
th No. 1 singles win as the Lady Eagles defeated Norfolk State 5-2 on Sunday, April 3 in Durham, N.C., at the Whippoorwill Park.
Palko defeated Jennifer Astbury of Norfolk State, 6-1, 6-3. In her second time as the No. 2 singles player, Fredrica Lombard seized her first win overpowering Naeemah Brooks, 6-1, 6-3. Kelly Chaparro beat her Norfolk State competition Rebecca Graff in the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-4. Maria Nedstrom rounded out the singles wins with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Chenge Tsapayi.
NCCU secured the match win by taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles win. Lombard and Maria moved up from the No. 2 doubles spot to the No. 1 spot, the duo defeated Brooks and Jonsson 8-5. Newly joined doubles partners Palko and Chaparro defeated NSU’s No. 2 Graff and Astbury 8-3.
The Lady Eagles advance to 9-10 on the season.
