DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – With a record of 11-12, the North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team brought the 2010-11 season to a close with a 6-1 victory over the Catamounts of Western Carolina on Sunday, April 17 in Durham, N.C. on the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The match began with doubles play. Oleysa Palko and Cameron Chatman defeated Ainnoa Iglesias and Isabella Glinska 8-2 as the No. 1 doubles team. Kelly Chaparro and Tatiana Velasquez achieved the No. 3 win by default.
In singles play, the maroon and grey won five of the six matches. Palko beat Glinska 6-2, 6-2 as the No. 1 singles player. In the No. 2 spot, Chatman achieved a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win over Carolina Lainez. Tatiana Velasquez concluded her career as a Lady Eagle with her ninth singles, defeating Katie Barry 6-0, 6-0. Frederica Lombard and Maria Nedstrom won their matches by default.
The NCCU women’s tennis team will return to action this fall.
