Match Results: NCCU v. NJIT / NCCU v. Longwood / NCCU v. Seattle
FARMVILLE, Va. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team wrapped up the 2010-11 season with the National Independent Tournament hosted by the Longwood Lancers on Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 in Farmville, Va.
The Eagles competed in three matches over the two days of competition, defeating New Jersey Institute of Technology 4-3 and falling to Longwood 4-0 and Seattle 4-1.
In NCCU’s 4-3 win over NJIT, Jack Waissen beat Petr Rousar 6-2, 6-2. In a thrilling three set match, Trey Chatman defeated Ike Kiro 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3. Andres Perez claimed the final singles win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Martin Cederqvist.
The mighty maroon obtained the doubles point by clutching the No. 1 and No. 2 wins. Waissen and Trey took an 8-6 win over Rousar and Kiro. Alejandro Espitia and Perez beat Cederqvist and Fraser Croad 8-5.
For the second match of the tournament, Longwood clutched three singles wins and two doubles wins. Three of the singles matches and one of doubles matches were unfinished due to inclement weather.
NCCU concluded the tournament and the season with its matchup against Seattle. Waissen seized the only win of the match with a 7-6, 6-0 singles victory over David Kovas.
The maroon and grey conclude the 2010-11 season with a record of 7-11. Chatman, Perez and Waissen lead the team in singles win with 10 apiece.
The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team will return to action this fall, where they will play a complete Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule.
