WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - The North Carolina Central University women’s softball team fell to former Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Winston-Salem State in a doubleheader contest on Wednesday, April 13 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
 
The Lady Rams defeated the Lady Eagles 4-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two.
 
Over the course of the two games, NCCU amassed seven hits, one run and one RBI.
 
Game one of the doubleheader went to seven innings. NCCU’s Andrea Searls and Amanda Bullock managed the only two hits of the first contest.
 
Winston-Salem State’s Bonika Terry and Nikki Lynch led the offensive with one run and two hits apiece. Tanya Pettus and Hope Billings supplied two additional runs to the total four. The Lady Rams collected eight runs and four RBIs.
 
Kayla McPeek pitched 6.0 innings for the mighty maroon. Against 28 batters, McPeek allowed eight hits and four runs.
 
Brittany Lane of Winston-Salem State pitched a complete game against NCCU. Lane threw 16 strikeouts against 24 batters and only allowed two runs.
 
In game two of the night, Searls attained a run for NCCU in the first inning. Searls went 1-for-1 on three times at bat. Bullock slugged two hits, while Nadia Jefferies and Mae’Risha Watts connected on one hit apiece. Bullock seized her fifth RBI with Searls run.
 
Terry and Shantel Haskins whacked two runs apiece in game two. Pettus, Kayla Woodbury, Lynch, Ashley Shephard and Madison Brown added one run apiece to the total nine. Woodbury utilized her time at bat to bring four runners home.
 
Shamika Chavis-Hodge and Aurora Baker maintained the circle for the Lady Eagles in game two. Chavis-Hodge began in the circle; in 3.0 innings of action she threw three walks and two strikeouts, while allowing six hits and five runs against 18 batters. Baker saw 1.2 innings of action. From the mound she faced 12 batters, striking out one and walking two, while permitting four runs and four hits.
 
WSSU’s Tiffany Burgess and Lane shared pitching duties. In 3.0 innings, Burgess struck out three NCCU batters and walked two, while allowing four hits and one run. Lane pitched for 2.0 innings. From the circle, she struck out three batters and permitted one hit.
 
The Lady Eagles drop to 6-28 on the season.
 
NCCU will travel to the sunshine state to face Bethune-Cookman in a three-game two-day road stint. On Saturday, April 17, the Lady Eagles will play a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m., then they closeout the weekend with a Sunday, April 18 single-game matchup at 12 p.m.
