NCCU opened the weekend with a 4-3 loss to Morgan State on Friday afternoon. The match, which began at 2 p.m. extended to 11:45 p.m. Jack Waissen, Trey Chatman and Andres Perez obtained singles wins in the grueling contest. Waissen defeated Eric Ward of Morgan State 6-0, 6-4. Chatman beat Duwane Thomas 6-4, 7-6. Perez obtained the third point of the contest by defeating Aaron Bejamin in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
Waissen and Chatman clutched the No. 1 doubles win of the match. The duo beat Morgan State’s Ward and Kevon Charles 8-2.
The maroon and grey had an early start on Saturday, battling Coppin State at 9 a.m. NCCU beat CSU 4-0, the low score was due to unfinished doubles competition and two unfinished singles matches.
As the No. 1 singles player, Waissen beat James Jeffreys 6-3, 6-0. With a 6-1, 6-1 win, Perez defeated Quincy Drako. In the No. 3 singles spot, Alejandro Espitia obtained a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jahra Wigfall. Chatman, competed in the last singles match, where he beat Justin Hodge 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 position.
The NCCU men’s tennis will conclude the season with the Longwood Independent Tournament on April 15-16 in Farmville, Va.
