WILSON, N.C. – The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University seized their eighth win of the season on Tuesday, March 29, by defeating the Trojans of Mount Olive 6-3 in Wilson, N.C.
The mighty maroon went 2-for-4 in singles play. Oleysa Palko continued to lead the maroon and grey as the No. 1 singles student-athlete. Palko obtained a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mt. Olive’s Marine Becker. NCCU’s Frederica Lombard stepped up to the No. 2 singles position, taking her first win in the No. 2 spot over Pietra Viana, 6-1, 6-3. Lady Eagles’ Kelly Chaparro grasped the No. 3 win over Sofia Medeiros, 6-2, 6-3. Maria Nedstrom concluded the singles wins with a default win on Noelia Mora.
In doubles competition, NCCU won the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 sets. Nedstrom and Lombard faced Vina and Medeiros, and were victorious with an 8-4 win. Chaparro and Palko joined together to beat Becker and Guedes, 9-8.
The Lady Eagles advance their record to 8-9.
NCCU looks to obtain their ninth win of the season on Wednesday, March 30, against Campbell in Buies Creeks, N.C., the first set is slated for 4 p.m.
