NCCU’S WILLIAMS EARNS MEAC’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

The guard guides the Lady Eagles with five double-doubles

HAMPTON, Va. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – For the first time of the 2011-12 campaign, North Carolina Central University junior Chasidy Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Monday, Dec. 19.

Williams attained the momentous honor off her performances in the Lady Eagles 65-64 victory over Coker College on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and 68-48 loss to Clemson on Sunday, Dec. 20.

In Wednesday’s one-point victory Williams topped the night with 25 points and 11 rebounds four her fourth double-double of the season.  On Sunday’s loss to Clemson, the guard grabbed 17 boards and tallied 17 points for her fifth double-double of the season. 

The Fayetteville, N.C., native pulled down 28 rebounds, blocked three shots and stole three opponent’s possessions to aid the Lady Eagles to a 1-1 mark on week.  Offensively, she combined for 42 points and added three assists, while shooting 45 percent from the floor. 

At this junction of the season, Williams guides the squad in minutes with 355 for an average 35.5, points at 170 (17.0), rebounds with 90 (9.0), eight blocked shots and 23 steals.

On the season, NCCU holds an overall record of 2-9 and 0-1 in the MEAC.  Statistically the mighty maroon is 37 percent on 219-589 shooting, 38-121 from the long range, and 58 percent from the charity stripe, 102-175.

The mighty maroon returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 21 for a 1:00 p.m. hardwood matchup against the Lady Eagles of Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
