2011-12 Women’s Basketball Information Guide/Game Notes: NCCU at Clemson
DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team has spent a great deal of time in the Palmetto State this season and on Sunday, Dec. 18, the Lady Eagles return to South Carolina to battle the Tigers of Clemson in Clemson, S.C., for a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
While the afternoon matchup marks the second-of-three Atlantic Coast Conference contest on the season, Sunday’s hardwood competition marks the first meeting between the two Division I programs.
Sunday’s contest marks the second time Clemson battles a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe this season. On Monday, Nov. 21, the Tigers suffered a 10-point, 76-66 to North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
NCCU (2-8) returns to action following a 65-64 victory over Coker College on Wednesday, Dec. 14 on the McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium hardwood.
Lady Eagles’ offensive leader junior Chasidy Williams topped the night with 25 points and 11 rebounds four her fourth double-double of the season, while senior Blaire Houston and junior Jasmine Alston, who was 2-of-3 from the long range, finished the night with eight points apiece. Maroon and gray freshman Kabrina Truesdale pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds, lobbed a career-high five assists and stole two Coker possessions.
In the second-home victory of the season, the Lady Eagles were 42 percent from the field on 27-of-65 shooting, 2-of-8 from behind the arc, and 47 percent from the charity stripe, 9-of-19.
On the season, the mighty maroon is 38 percent from the field on 201-of-529 shooting, 31 percent from the long range, and 60 percent from the free-throw line, 97-of-163. Williams guides the squad in points with 153, rebounds at 73, 21 steals and six blocks on the season, as Truesdale has distributed 21 assists.
Clemson (3-5) welcomes the mighty maroon to Littlejohn Coliseum following a 63-51 loss to Oakland on Friday, Dec. 9. The road upset extended the squads losing streak to three.
Nikki Dixon topped the squad with 13 points, while Kelly Gramlich assisted the Tigers with nine points. Chancie Dunn pulled down a team-high five rebounds and circulated a team-high six assists, as Dixon stole five Oakland possessions. In the loss, Clemson was 31 percent from the field on 18-of-59 shooting, 40 percent from the long range and 73 percent from the free-throw line, 11-of-15.
This season, Clemson is 39 percent from the field on 194-of-498, 28 percent from behind the arc and 64 percent from the free-throw line, 99-of-155. Dixon leads the offense with 111 points on the season, while Shaniqua Pauldo has contributed 91 points to the team’s total 515. Quinyotta Pettaway guides the rebounding effort with 56 boards, as Chancie Dunn has circulated 36 assists.
