Box Score NCCU at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) –
With North Carolina Central University redshirt junior Chasidy Williams striding towards a double-double outing and the Lady Eagles ahead at the half, a 15-point Wofford win was the last expectation in the Monday, Nov. 14, 73-58 loss in Spartanburg, S.C.

Williams finished the night with her first double-double performance of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Alesha Jenkins and freshman Kabrina Truesdale finished with seven apiece.  Senior Blaire Houston was the second highest rebounder with six boards.  Sophomore Sierra Solomon forced five WC turnovers, while lobbing six assists.

The Lady Eagles and the Terriers tussled for the lead throughout the first half.  NCCU took the lead for the initial six minutes of play with an early four-point lead for a score of 8-4.

But, with Rachel Brittenhman at the charity stripe shooting sinking two free throws, WC would take the lead and pace to a 17-6 at the 8-8 mark to take an 11-point lead, the largest lead of the first half.

NCCU’s Williams answered back dropping seven consecutive points for the mighty maroon, breaking the margin to four points.  Sophomore Sierra Solomon aided in the offensive surge with a shot from behind arc and as Williams scoring her fourth layup in under a minute, NCCU regained the lead, 26-25 at the 6:32 mark.

Wofford never saw the lead again in the half, with the Lady Eagles putting the Terriers at a five-point deficit at halftime with a score of 39-34.

The second half of play has been the Lady Eagles Achilles’ heel thus far this season and the last 20 minutes of play in Monday night’s contest was Wofford’s golden ticket.

Before NCCU scored its first basket, WC went on an 11-0 run.  Jenkins went 1-for-1 from the free-throw line to put the Lady Eagles on the board with a score of 45-40 at the 13:22 mark.

The Lady Eagles never recovered from the run and were outscored 39-19 in the second half as Wofford sealed their second win of the season, 73-58.

NCCU finished 39 percent from the field on 24-of-61 shooting, 13 percent from behind the arc, and 38 percent from the free-throw line, 8-of-21.

Each member of the Terriers squad score in the win, with Morgan Wrightson topping the South Carolina host at 21 points.  April Moorhouse seized a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, as Brittenhman led in assists and steals with five each.

Wofford finished 38 percent from the field on 23-of-60 shooting, 28 percent from behind the arc, and 77 percent from the free-throw line, 23-of-30.

NCCU returns to the nest to host Campbell on Thursday, Nov. 17 in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
