Game Notes: NCCU at Wofford College
DURHAM, N.C. (www. NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team hits the highway for the first this season for a Monday, Nov. 14 matchup against the Terriers of Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., at 6:00 p.m.
The squad will make history on Monday night by battling the Palmetto State foes for the first time in school’s history.
NCCU (0-1) enters Benjamin Johnson Arena off a Friday, Nov. 11, 62-49 loss to Western Carolina in McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium. Standout redshirt junior Chasidy Williams led the maroon and gray in every category, with 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Fellow redshirt junior Jasmine Alston assisted in the Lady Eagles’ offensive effort going a perfect 3-for-3 from the long range and scoring in double figures with 11 points.
In terms of a total team performance, NCCU seized 36 rebounds, blocked three Catamounts’ shots and stole 17 WCU possessions. The Lady Eagles netted 60 percent from the free-throw line, 32 percent from the field and 60 percent from the three-point arc, with Alston going a perfect 3-for-3 from the long range.
WC (1-0), who a members of the Southern Conference, welcome the Lady Eagles after a season-opening four-point 66-62 victory over Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Terriers were led by Morgan Wrightson who finished the night with the first double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Brittenham and Logan Morris finished in double figures, with Brittenham topping the squad with 16 points, while Morris added 10 points in the win.
Wofford finished 52 percent from the field on 24-of-26 shooting, 50 percent from behind the arc, and 57 percent from the free-throw line, 12-of-21.
After one night of competition, the Lady Eagles are led by Williams with 17 points, followed by Alston with 11 points.
