FARMVILLE, Va. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University split a pair of men's tennis matches on Thursday during day one of the 2010 Independent Tournament, hosted by Longwood University in Farmville, Va.
NCCU opened tournament action with a 4-2 victory over rival Winston-Salem State, followed by a 4-1 setback against New Jersey Institute of Technology.
The Eagles open day two play on Friday at 8:30 a.m. versus Seattle, then complete the 2010 season against tournament host Longwood at 5 p.m.
In the first match on Thursday, NCCU earned the doubles point by capturing victories from Trey Chatman and Jack Waissen at No. 1, along with Alejandro Espitia and Jose Fabara at No. 2.
The Eagles then received singles wins from No. 2 Espitia, No. 3 Chatman and No. 5 Bryan Jackson to seal the match victory.
In the nightcap against NJIT, Chatman earned the lone point for NCCU with a singles victory at the No. 3 position.
