NCCU looks to take third win in the 8-2 series against Camels

DURHAM, N.C.
– The North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles (1-7) will hit the road once more in 2010, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C., where they will face Atlantic Sun foe Campbell University (0-7) on Tuesday, Dec. 14 to end their three-game road stint. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. in the John W. Pope Convocation, Jr. Center.
 
While the two teams meet for the first time this season, NCCU and Campbell are familiar foes. Tuesday’s match-up marks the 11th meeting in program history. Regrettably for the Lady Eagles, the series is in the Lady Camels favor, with Campbell leading 8-2. The orange and black defeated NCCU last season, 79-63, in McDougald-McLendon Gym for the Lady Eagles 2009 home-opener.
 
NCCU enters the contest after a 62-54 loss to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. Three student-athletes provided double-digit performances in the loss. NCCU sophomore Chasidy Williams earned a season-high 17 points, while adding five steals and three rebounds in the contest. Junior Blaire Houston joined Williams with her own 12-point season-high accomplishment. Jori Nwachukwu continued to provide double-digit play for the Lady Eagles, obtaining 17 points and seven rebounds.
 
Campbell hosts the Lady Eagles after dropping an 83-80 decision to UNC Wilmington on Saturday, Dec. 11. Four student-athletes donated double-digit performances. Senior Lauren Yesh led the Lady Camels with 13 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jazmine Cooper also amassed 13 points, combined with six rebounds. Junior Kate Cloxton and sophomore Monique Spry both tallied 10 points. Cloxton distributed six assists, while Spry grabbed four boards.
 
Returning duo Nwachukwu and Williams continue to pace the Lady Eagles offense at an average 14.9 and 11.4 points per game, respectively. Nwachukwu grabs around 9.3 boards a contest, while leading the squad with 10 blocks. Williams dominates in steals with 18.
 
NCCU averages 50 points per game, scoring 31 percent from the field, hitting 17 percent from behind the arc and 62 percent from the charity stripe.
 
The Lady Camels’ offense is led by Tonisha Baker at 10.9 points per game, followed by Cooper with 9.3 points per game. On the season, Baker leads in steals at 13 while Cooper dominates the boards grabbing 6.14 rebounds a game. Coxton contributes to the offense allocating a 30 assists.
Campbell averages 65 points per game. The Lady Camels are 37 percent from the field, 36 percent from the three-point arc and 67 percent from the free throw line.
