DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team will tip-off the 2010-11 season with a short trip down interstate 40 to Winston-Salem, N.C., where the Lady Eagles will take on Wake Forest University on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
The Lady Eagles begin their competitive Division I schedule with the Demon Deacons, who finished the 2009-10 season in fifth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with a record of 7-7 and 18-14 overall.
The NCCU women’s basketball team hits the Wake Forest hardwood following a 93-64 exhibition game loss to Johnson C. Smith University. NCCU senior Jori Nwachukwu returned to the program with 11 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Freshman Justyne Sublett made her college debut with a team-best 12 points and five boards.
Wake Forest returns four starters and 10 letterwinners. The veterans will be joined by four newcomers.
Senior forward Brittany Waters is the Demon Deacons' leading returning scorer, averaging over 13 points per game last year. She is just 122 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Junior forward Secily Ray and sophomore center Sandra Garcia will be the Wake Forest post-play combination. Ray paced the black and gold in rebounding and averaged more than 11 points a game in 2009-10. Garcia recorded a total of seven double-doubles last season.
