As a Redshirt Senior (2023-24)
Second Team All-MEAC… Two-time MEAC Offensive Player of the Week (Dec. 27, Jan. 31)… HBCU All-Star Selection… competed in 26 games making 18 starts… scored 14.1 points per game… averaged 3.3 rebounds per game and 1.9 assists… shot 83.1 percent from the free throw line… scored a season-high 21 points at Delaware State University (Jan. 29)… went 13-of-14 from the free throw line at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 27)… grabbed 10 rebounds against Longwood (Dec. 20)… dished out six assists against Truett-McConnell University (Jan. 3)… one double-double (Dec. 20 – Longwood).
As a Redshirt Junior (2022-23)
Appeared in 29 games, averaging 11.2 minutes per game. Grabbed 26 boards, dished out 28 assists, recorded one block, four steals and scored 127 points. Season-high of 18 points came against St. Andrews (Dec. 3).
As a Junior (2021-22)
Made 23 appearances and averaged 9.8 minutes per game. Scored 80 points and dished out 16 assists with 14 steals, and two blocks. Shot 42.0 percent from the floor. Topped 20 points three times, including a season-high 26 points at Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 24). Helped lift the Eagles to a MEAC tournament quarterfinal win over MDES (March 10) when he scored 12 points, all in the second half, and started 3-for-3 from the floor with two treys, and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Prior to NCCU:
East Florida State College (2020-21): Played 12 games with one start, and averaged 21.0 minutes per game. Scored 10.6 points per game, and shot 46.2 percent from the floor and 35.6 percent from the arc. Made 73.0 percent of free throw attempts. Scored in double-digits eight times. Scored a career-high 22 points in a nearly-perfect performance at Santa Fe College (Feb. 8), as he shot 8-for-8 from the floor, 5-for-5 from three-point range, and 1-for-2 from the free throw line.
UT Martin (2019-20): Played 26 games and started eight as a freshman, and averaged 15.7 minutes per game. Led the Skyhawks in three-point percentage at .393 (11-for-28) and also shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line (12-for-14). Scored in double-digits four times, including a season-high 16 points on a perfect shooting day (5-for-5 FG, 3-for-3 three-point, 3-for-3 free throw) in his first career start at SIU Edwardsville on Jan. 25. Dished out a season-high six assists at Eastern Illinois on Feb. 15.
High School (Peabody H.S.): Earned multiple awards as a senior, including 2019 Tennessee Class A Mr. Basketball. Was the first Mr. Basketball winner from Peabody H.S. since 2005, and also was named Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee Boy’s Basketball Player of the Year, All-USA Tennessee Boys second team all-state, and was the unanimous District 14A MVP. Averaged 22.7 points, 5.4 boards, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game, and helped his squad to a 27-7 record. Won a district championship and made a Class A sectionals appearance during that season. Scored 30 or more points seven times, including an impressive 36 points in the Milan Christmas tournament championship game. Scored 1,775 points in his high school career, and averaged 20 points per game as a junior.
Personal: Born in Trenton, Tennessee. Mother is Tomeka Haynes. Enjoys food, music, and traveling. Majoring in behavioral and social sciences at NCCU. Changed his jersey number from 1 to 52 to honor fallen Eagle Devin Butts.
