Biography

As a Senior (2017-18)
Named Most Outstanding Player of the MEAC Tournament.  Played 33 games and started two, averaging 26.6 minutes per game.  Finished top-25 in the MEAC in scoring with 11.7 points per game, ninth in rebounding at 7.0 rebounds per game, and fifth in blocks with 1.1 per game with a total of 35.  Also finished 10th in the MEAC with a 49.5 field goal percentage.  Had a career night against Coppin State (Jan. 13) when he had a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, both career-highs.  Averaged 15.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game with three blocks and five steals over four games during the MEAC Tournament.  Scored 22 points in the championship game against Hampton (March 10).   Reached a career-high four blocks three separate times, including against Hampton (Feb.5) when he was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 6.  Averaged 6.5 rebounds with six blocks during that week.  Named Preseason Third-Team All-MEAC.

As a Junior (2016-17)
Appeared in all 34 games and averaged 18.4 minutes per game.  Shot 64.7 percent from the floor, good for the third-highest field goal percentage in a season in the modern era at NCCU.  Averaged 7.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and led the Eagles in rebounding three times.  Shot 100 percent from the floor twice, the first time going 7-for-7 from the floor, 2-for-2 from the perimeter and 2-for-2 from the free throw line for 18 points and nine boards.  Shot 6-for-6 but missed one free throw (4-for-5) at Missouri for 16 points and six rebounds.  Had his highest scoring output with 19 points against Southern Wesleyan (Dec. 1) to finish off a five-game streak of scoring in double-figures.  Pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds against Truett McConnell (Dec. 28).

Prior to NCCU: Sheridan College (2014-16)
Played 28 games and started 22 in the 2015-16 season.  Was one of the top scorers in his region in his sophomore year, averaging 19.5 points per game along with 8.3 rebounds per contest.  He also collected 45 blocks in that season.  Was efficient from the free throw line as he knocked down 84 percent of his attempts.  Played 31 games with 26 starts in his freshman year, and was one of the better scorers in the region with 14.5 points per game with 6.9 caroms per night.  Turned away 21 shots that season and shot 53.7 percent from the floor.

High School (Cesar Chavez H.S.)
Finished as the third leading scorer in school history.  Averaged 17.9 points with 11.3 rebounds per game his senior year, and was named to All-State Second Team in 2014.  Was named West Valley Player of the Year his junior year after averaging 22 points and 13 boards per contest, and helped his team to a 29-3 overall record and a trip to the Division I semifinals, and was named to All-State First Team.

Personal: Parents are Pedro Rivas and Luz Gonzalez.  Born on Oct. 15, 1994 in Colón, Panama.  Enjoys playing basketball, soccer and video games.  His favorite foods are lasagna, Panamanian food and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  Majoring in psychology.
