North Carolina Central University Athletics

2013:  Named to All-MEAC Academic team.  Worked 31.1 innings in his final season at NCCU ending with a career-best ERA of 3.73 with 12 strikeouts and only six walks.  Went on a three-game winning streak with victories against Longwood (March 26), Virginia State (April 3), and nationally-ranked Campbell (April 16).  Earned his first career complete-game shutout in the 10-0 victory over Longwood, allowing only four hits and recording one strikeout.  Recorded at least one strikeout in seven of his eight appearances.

2012: Made 19 appearances in his first year at NCCU making six starts and one complete game that included being in the weekend rotation during the early portion of conference play. Finished 1-4 on the year with a 9.46 ERA striking out 21 batters. Earned his first win at NCCU on April 1 against Florida A&M in the third game of the series when he threw six innings allowing eight hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts as the Eagles swept the Rattlers on the weekend. His lone complete game came in a loss but it may have been his best performance as he surrendered only seven hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts in the 3-0 loss to Savannah State. Struck out at least one batter in 11 of his 19 appearances.

Redwoods Junior College: As a freshman he led the pitching staff in wins and led in innings pitched the following season with 71.1. Pitched nine innings against No.1 ranked Butte College in Calif. as the team went on to win 3-2 in 12 innings.

High School (Fortuna Union H.S.): Was All- Conference and received the offensive and defensive MVP award his senior year.

Personal: Born October 29, 1990 in Eureka, Calif. Son of Ruben Sr and Susan Rios. Brother of Deanna, Dianna, and Savannah Rios. He graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Humanities and Communication for the College of the Redwoods in 2011. Has not decided on a major at NCCU.
