Biography
2013: Named First-Team All-MEAC and MEAC All-Tournament Team in his senior season at NCCU. Led the team with a .320 batting average, a .462 slugging percentage, .454 on-base percentage, 45 runs scored (Top-Five in the MEAC), 63 hits, 37 RBI, 14 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 91 total bases, and 45 walks (Top-Five in the MEAC); Only Eagle to play and start all 56 games. Amassed 18 multi-hit games with two-three hit games, and one four-hit game (May 17 vs. Norfolk State-MEAC Tournament). In that contest, Diaz helped the Eagles advance in the Baseball Championships with two doubles, a triple, a run scored, and four RBI. Had the longest hit streak on the team going eight straight contests with at least one hit from March 17-March 26. Ended his final six games with a hit in each one, that included 8-for-19 (.421) in the MEAC Baseball Championships. Had 12 Multi-RBI games which topped the team. In a doubleheader against Virginia State on April 3 went 3-for-8 with three runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and five RBI. In a twinbill sweep over Longwood on March 26 went 4-for-7 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored.
2012: Named First-Team All-MEAC, nominated for NCCSIA All-State team, and ABCA All-Atlantic Region. Named MEAC Player of the Week for April 1 for his performance against Florida A&M in NCCU’s series sweep over the Rattlers. During that week, batted .556 (10-for-18) at-the-dish and was 7-for-11 (.636) with a double, three triples, an inside-the-park home run, five RBI, and eight runs scored in the three-game series. Led the team batting .351 on the season, and set a new modern-era record with 65 hits on a season breaking Dylan Drayton’s old mark of 58. Topped the team in runs scored (45), home runs (4), slugging percentage (.508), and total bases (94). Finished third on the team in RBI (30), tied for third in doubles (9), second on the team in walks (25), hit-by-a-pitch (14), and was tied for second in stolen bases (7). Was one of two Eagles (Troy Marrow) to play and start all 51 contests. Finished first on the squad with 21 multiple hit games (17-two hits), (3-three hits), and (one-four hits). Had 10 multiple RBI games that included nine two RBI contests. Ended the season reaching base in the final four games. Recorded at least one hit in 42 games. Had a season-long eight-game hitting streak from March 7 to March 18 recording 14 hits in that span. One of his finest performances at-the-plate came on April 1 where he went 3-for-4 with an inside-the park home run, a triple, three runs scored, and three RBI. In MEAC play, batted a team-best .365 with 31 hits in 23 games with six doubles, three triples, a home run and 16 RBI in 85 at-bats.
Monroe Community College: Ranked as the No. 13 pro prospect out of the New York Summer League by Perfect Game. Hit .374 in 34 games last season that included eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 17 RBI. Diaz had a .586 slugging percentage and was 17-for-22 in the stolen base category. Diaz was one of the top hitters on a team that finished last season 29-12. Monroe Community College boasts seven appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series. He led Monroe in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, and tied for the team lead in doubles.
