Biography


2015:  Made 22 appearances in relief which was second on the team.  Pitched 24.1 innings with 17 strikeouts.  Finished career as one of just four Eagles with a perfect fielding percentage with a minimum of 10 chances.  Threw a six pitch inning against Norfolk State (Feb. 14) with a strikeout without allowing a hit, walk or earned run.  Picked up three strikeouts in an inning against UNC Wilmington (March 4) allowing one hit.  Made longest appearance of the year against Bethune-Cookman (April 11) pitching 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.  

2014:  Began his first season at NCCU as a reliever later being moved to weekend starter and showed the Eagle nation plenty of brilliant performances.  Worked 51.0 innings on the year in 18 appearances with five starts on-the-hill.  In his first start as an Eagle on April 5 as he went 8.0 innings (longest outing of the year) and allowed only three earned runs as NCCU beat arch-rival NC A&T in game one of a series that the Eagles went on to sweep.  Earned his first collegiate save at NCCU on Feb. 22 against Niagara.  Struck out a season-high five batters in NCCU’s 16-12 win over Longwood where he allowed just two hits in 5.0 innings.  Recorded his first win on March 19 on the road at Furman with a 3.0 inning three strikeout performance in NCCU’s comeback win over the Paladins.  Pitched a solid 7.0 innings in the crucial series opener against Florida A&M on April 26 allowing three runs on five hits as the maroon and gray eventually won 8-5 over the Rattlers.  Ended the year with 26 strikeouts and only 19 walks.
 
Brunswick Community College:  Helped lead Dolphins to become Region X Champions (2013). Team appeared in JUCO Division II World Series.
 
High School (Southern Nash H.S.): A three-time varsity letter winner, as a junior he posted a 6-6 pitching mark with a 1.93 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 99.2 innings. Led the county in innings pitched.  Named New 6 First Team All-Conference (2009). 
 
Personal: Born January, 2, 1992 in Bailey, North Carolina. Parents are Christine and Stan Shields. He has a brother named Corey. Major at NCCU is Psychology.
